Effect:
The magician has a spectator select a card from the deck. Without letting the magician see, the spectator can look at and show the selection to the audience. Then the card is placed into the center of the deck and the spectator shuffles it. The magician then claims that with in 2 attempts, he can find the selected card, in fact, the magician is so confident that he bets $5 if the card is not found. Placing his wager of a $5 bill under his shoe, where it is safe and visible, the magician fans the deck and takes his first attempt to find the card. The revealed card is not the spectator's selection! One more incorrect guess and the spectator wins the bet! The magician using his last and final attempt pulls from the deck...a folded $5 bill! Since the magician's wager ended up where the selected card was in the deck, then the selected card should be where the bill was. Sure enough, there is now a face down card under the magician's shoe, picking it up and turning it over reveals the spectator's selected card and the magician wins the bet!

The card trick "Oil & Water" has always had a very strong impact on audiences. The classic version of this trick however requires a lot of practice. The version here presented, makes a subtle use of some special cards that make the performance much easier and cleaner.

Effect:

The magician shows three red cards and three black cards to the audience. The cards are put down on the table one at a time and one on top of the other alternating the colors: red, black, red black... After squaring the cards, the magician waves his hand over them and turns them face up. Incredibly, just like water and oil separate, the red cards and the black cards will be seen to have separated into two piles of reds and blacks.

This effect can be immediately repeated leaving everybody even more baffled.

The spectators will not be able to find any explanation because the magic will happen right in front of their eyes without any suspicious moves by the magician.

The necessary Bicycle cards are supplied inside an elegant card holder.

Games of chance have a rich and colorful history but perhaps the most famous - and notorious - of them all is the simple three-in-one proposition game known alternatively as Find the Lady, Tossing the Broads, and most popularly, Three-Card Monte. While written descriptions of early versions of this classic con game date back to at least the 16th century, Three-Card Monte hustlers are on the streets of the world's largest cities to this day, still able to draw the unsuspecting into wagering their hard-earned cash, a testimony to the lure and intrigue of this game. The entertainment potential of this simple hustle didn't escape the notice of magicians, either, with Professor Hoffman being just the first of many conjurors to adapt the basic premise of this con game for the amusement of their audiences.

In Volume 1, you'll discover a variety of different artists with their own unique interpretations of Three Card Monte. Dai Vernon leads off with a routine that has its roots deeply in the game's traditions. With just three ungaffed cards, Vernon first bewilders a lay audience and then discusses the fine handling points with Michael Ammar, Gary Ouellet, and Steve Freeman. Fernando Keops is next, offering his version, and many additional fine handling points, of Vernon's routine. Chicago card expert Steve Draun manages to still keep the audience from finding the money card even when it has a paper clip attached to it while David Regal turns the game into a fine example of card conjuring where the money card vanishes and reappears elsewhere. Scotty York conjures images of card hustlers of the past as he presents his version of Martin Lewis' routine while John Guastaferro uses the game to set up a sensational transposition between two selected cards. Gregory Wilson takes to the streets in true Monte style, winning personal possessions from passers-by in the process while, finally, Henry Evans eliminates a card to play a stunning version of Two-Card Monte, yet the spectators still cannot win.

What is The Ivory Connection?

The Ivory Connection is the name explorers gave to the secret pathway leading from a clever pocket trick from the 1940's to a stunning magical experience of today.

The Ivory Connection was discovered by professional performers Reed McClintock and Steve Dobson working in the trenches, exploring the past for new miracles to bring back to their audiences.

The Ivory Connection is the only version of the Sacks dice routine that begins with magic, looks like magic, and ends with magic. Two dice appear out of nowhere. Their spots dance across their faces, jumping from die to die until the only thing the audience is sure of is that they've seen all sides of each die. Each separate die...and then...they reach their final destination, just south of reality.

Archeologists at The Magic Bakery recently unearthed a lost map of the Ivory Connection, stored on an ancient form of communication known as videotape. Unable to restore the images they found, they journeyed into the wild to capture Reed McClintock and Steve Dobson in their natural habitat. Using modern broadcast-quality digital cameras, they caught Reed performing the routine in front of a live audience, and both Reed and Steve in the optimal viewing conditions of a video studio.

The new DVD features the updated presentations, explanations, handlings and tips from both intrepid explorers. For the first time, the rare and illusive Steve Dobson reveals his preferred handling. For the first time, Reed McClintock explains the refinements he has made after years of performances for paying audiences. And as a bonus for future historians, the entire footage of the original Ivory Connection is included, in all of its low production glory.
